The word volunteerism always raises many eyebrows. Either people (the few) are very receptive or others (the many) are reluctant to volunteer. In my experiences as a sorority member, it was always difficult to get my sisters and other community members involved in a community service project, despite volunteerism being a core value to our sorority. I do enjoy volunteering however I have to admit that I have volunteered far less within the last year due to my first year in grad school. I am not trying to make excuses but it is difficult to set aside time to volunteer, which is a problem many Americans face.
