The purpose of the ServeNext Public Square is to enable anyone from any location get involved in expanding service opportunities. Each citizen and supporter of service plays a critical role in taking action to make service a central part to American culture. The Public Square is a place where this will happen. Over time this will become an increasingly vibrant location to learn about issues effecting national service, how you can take action, and to meet other people who share the same interest in expanding service. Washington, DCStudents in the Georgetown Action Network have had an exciting year engaging leaders on campus. Recently, they hosted Congressman Christopher Shays (R-CT), one of national service’s biggest champions. Student are also active at events around campus and next year will be launching a campaign to challenge the University to match the AmeriCorps education award.

My Visit To Public Allies

I visited an AmeriCorps program called Public Allies, which is a program in which employees are matched with a non-profit organization. The size of the non-profit organization varies .The employees duties varies as well. They may be assign to fundrasing or field work and so on. I went to their bi-monthly training. The employees had to do oral presentations in leadership, organization in the workplace, alcohol and drug abuse in the workplace and so on. Everybody was really nice , I liked the program so much I am considering it as a valid option after I get out of school.

Public Allies is located in Terminal Way which is just a short distance from Station Square. It was a really neat building where you can tell they took an old warehouse and converted it into offices fairly recently. But it gives a good feel about Public Allies since it’s about changing people into leaders.

But one of the things most people take for granted is the idea of national service and how national service will help aid the work of non-profit organizations.
